Have you ever found yourself perpetuating myths about health only to find out later they were completed wrong? We’ve all been there at some point in our lives.From telling children carrots give you night vision to swimming after eating gives you cramps, there is a nearly endless amount of them out there.The problem is some of the longer-lasting ones seem plausible on the surface but dig a little deeper and you’ll realize they’re complete bunkum. Not to mention that sometimes they may actually even be unhealthy or downright dangerous!

Scientific discoveries are often presented in a mythological way with a theory being presented as a dramatic flash of insight by a heroic individual rather than as the result of sustained experiment and reasoning. False beliefs and wishful thinking about the human experience are common. They are hurting people — and holding back Science in Health and Medicine . Throughout the centuries, many health myths have arisen. Some are tried, tested, and taken as fact, but others are nothing more than fantasy. Some may be “old wives’ tales” that have been passed from generation to generation, which somehow escape being challenged outside scientific and medical professions. Other times, it can be that old but previously accepted science — such as the results of studies from the mid-20th century — is found by modern scientific methods to be less accurate than originally thought.
